A Function To Celebrate Sanskrit

A Function To Celebrate Sanskrit

This event was at Harold M Braithwaite languages learning center on June Saturday 9th. Krushna taught me a game while waiting. The game took the bore out of waiting. In the function we got to show what we learned during class. I was very excited. We had the Canadian national anthem O’Canada and the Indian national anthem Janaganamana. Our whole class would be doing three songs while the middle one was a prayer.

The songs were Ekam dva agachantu sarva, Aham patami Sanskritam and English vinglish astu.  Then three girls did the first portion of Vande mataram. This is a song that the freedom fighters of India were singing while fighting. Then a girl who a good friend of mine named Vaishnavi sang the fox and sour grapes story in Sanskrit. She did the song with actions. It was very funny. I wonder how long it took her to memorize that.  The teacher was holding two grapes on a toothpick so that we could know that the fox was looking at the grapes. Vaishnavi caught on since when the teacher showed the grapes Vaishnavi was looking at them while singing and dancing.

Then another friend named Krushna said the Gayatri matra. Or in other words Om Burbhuvasvaha. The song I liked singing the most was the prayer song or Aham patami Sanskritam. The song I liked listening to was the song that Vaishnavi sang and danced to.Well, we thought that there would be a parade but we were out of luck. Also we thought that there would be no learning. But there was one hour before the parade that was whole heartedly devoted to learning and rehearsal. One thing I was surprised to know was that the girls were singing only one portion in Vande Mataram. I saw them holing scripts that had the whole song. Trust me, they were long! Very long!! I think it had more on the back side too! Our teacher gave us our progress report too. We were very happy. Our teacher said that she was very proud of us. She had told us that it was her first time teaching kids.

She asked us to write feedback on what we like or dislike on a piece of paper. No one wrote that they disliked anything. The teacher said she would bring materials for class next time. We also revised our colures numbers shapes and what not! At the function many people were taking videos of us. My dad was one of them. When I came off the stage with my group I found out that I did not have stage fright anymore. Next time I might be doing something extra like Vaishnavi. How did she not feel scared I wonder?

Anyway I loved the function very much. J. And I loved being in my teachers class.J We were allowed to play games and do activities like crosswords maze and all those other fun things!!!JJJ I am waiting to see her again next year and my friend’s performance (If she will be doing it) my teacher was very happy about how I did in the group.
